Mental health advocacy is rolling into focus as Go By Bike Week comes to a close.

In partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ride Don't Hide Vernon will be taking place at Coldstream's Centennial Park on Sunday, June 8.

"It is all about getting out there and making the community aware of mental health," said Vicki Proulx, director of CMHA Vernon. "We don't have to hide from it, and we don't have to do this alone."

Now in its 10th year, the ride is a nationwide movement in bringing mental health into the open.

The event is a "little bit" behind their fundraising goal of $80,000, and will need assistance in getting over the finish line.

"We usually see a lot of registrants leading up to the event," said Proulx, who added that the Galbraith Family Foundation will be matching funds raised. "Even if you are unable to donate, you can still show up to support."

The event will kick off with registration at 8 a.m., with the ride at 9 a.m. Cyclists and non-cyclists can take part, which feature five routes ranging from 2.3 to 32 kilometres. You can ride or walk as an individual or as a team.

"We will have a barbecue for the riders once they return, and Olympia Cycle and the Okanagan Science Centre will both be there with tents," said Proulx.

Individual registration is $55, kids 12 and under ride free, and there will be painting and lawn games for the whole family to enjoy.
