The Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge is having its Hay Day fundraiser from Aug. 9-17 to help keep animals like mammoth donkeys Mocha and Mandy fed and happy.

The Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge is having a real Hay Day this month to help cover their asses.

The refuge's latest fundraiser, the Bringing Home the Hay raffle, will run from Aug. 9 to 17 with all proceeds going specifically to the Buy-a-Bale Hay Fund.

In addition to the good feeling of giving back to support donkeys in need, there are three great prizes available. First prize is a hand quilted donkey wall hanging valued at $200; second is a gift basket, Indigenous Wolf Art by Mecqaela Jones ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ Te-Moak at a value of $160; in third is a handmade birdhouse valued at $45.

Tickets ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $2 each, or three for $5 ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ are available for purchase at the refuge during open hours, or by calling 250-679-2778.

The fundraiser closes on Hay Day, a fun, family friendly event at the refuge, with admission by donation on Sunday, Aug. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with every dollar going to the Hay Fund. In a media release, the refuge explains will help them "cover the cost of the 4,300+ bales of hay needed to feed our beloved donkeys and mules each year."

There will be activities for all ages that day, including making donkey ear headbands, blowing bubbles, hula hooping, games, puzzles and more. As the hay is strictly for the donkeys, the Armstrong Lions Club food truck will be on-site to feed visitors with grilled burgers and more. Every penny made through the Lions will stay in the animal kingdom and go directly to the Hay Fund.

Raffle tickets will be sold at the event as well, until the 3 p.m. draw and winners announcement.
