All the top-notch acrobatics and stunts of Cirque du Soleil is coming to Kelowna, but on ice. 

Cirque du Soleil Crystal is at Kelowna's Prospera Place, with shows on Thursday, May 22 ( 7 p.m.), Friday (7 p.m.), Saturday (3 p.m., 7 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m., 5 p.m.)

According to senior publishing manager Roberto Larroude, it takes a village to set up for the performances. 

"We travel with 18 trucks, 180 tons of equipment and over 100 people," he told Black Press. "It takes about 15 hours to put everything together."

While Cirque du Soleil is known mainly for its acrobatics, the Crystal performance will see several other disciplines. 

"I think people assume that this is just an ice show, but it is so much more,' said Stina Martini, one of the performers. "There are acrobatics, trapeze, figure skating and gymnastics."

Crystal follows the story of a creative misfit divining into a frozen dreamworld, where imagination takes centre stage. It was created in 2017 and has since been to over 150 cities in 26 different countries. During the show, 1,250 pieces of wardrobe will be used, and each artist will wear three-to-four different costumes for every performance. 

"It is unlike any other Cirque du Soleil show," added Martini. "It is kind of a twisty Alice in Wonderland with acrobatics. There is a storyline, but there are so many acts too."
