A multi-vehicle crash shook Lake Country just before the holiday season.
Involving a total of eight vehicles, the crash took place at the intersection of Highway 97 and Berry Road around 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21.
ѻýI was waiting at the lights at Berry and the highway (southbound) and I was in the right lane at the very front, it was a solid red light,ѻý said witness Lindsay Pressey.
ѻýEveryone was stopped but a car came up beside me on my left and sped through the red light, T-boning a car that was coming through the lights in the opposite direction.
ѻýThere was an explosion when they crashed, and it appeared like the other car that had travelled down further, hit two other cars, and was on fire.ѻý
The impact of the collision had a white Toyota Rav4 split into two pieces, sending the back half of the vehicle into the Dominoѻýs Pizza parking lot. A witness on the scene told Black Press Media that the driver was trapped in the vehicle.
Meanwhile, other witnesses claimed the vehicle that ran the red light was travelling at a high rate of speed. Those in the vicinity claim both the Dominoѻýs and Lordco buildings shook at the time of the collision due to the velocity of the crash.
Highway 97 was immediately closed as emergency services attended the scene.
Debris was scattered all across the highway and the parking lot.
The devastating crash sent two people to hospital.
Of the eight vehicles involved, four had to be towed.
After almost 12 hours, Highway 97 reopened as officers and BC Highway Patrol continued their investigation and cleaned up debris.
