A police presence on Kelowna's waterfront on Thursday, July 17 ended with a man being taken into custody.
Around 8:30 p.m., RCMP were notified of a man in distress in Okanagan Lake near Sunset Drive and Water Street, close to Tugboat Beach.
The Kelowna Fire Department and BC emergency services (BCEHS) also attended the scene, attempting to get the man to come out the lake and safely to shore.
However, the man ѻýcontinuously refused and became verbally confrontational with police,ѻý said Kelowna RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl. Allison Konsmo.
After a lengthy period of time and negotiations, the man's safety became a concern.
According to Konsmo, officers successfully used a high-risk rescued, taking the man safely into custody. He was also assessed by BCEHS.
The RCMP is continuing its investigation.
