Police dog, spike belt help stop truck thieves on Westside Road

Kelowna man and Surrey woman arrested

A couple in a stolen vehicle didn't get far once RCMP were on their heels Monday.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP received a report that a stolen vehicle had been located in the area of Louis Estates Road off Westside Road June 9 around 9:30 a.m.

Officers located the truck but it immediately fled north on Westside Road when police approached it.

Other responding officers had positioned themselves in advance and successfully deployed a tire deflation device. The vehicle was disabled and the two occupants fled on foot.

"The pair didnÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™t get far and were tracked down by Police Service Dog Norse and arrested without incident," said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer.

The 36-year old Kelowna man and 34-year old woman from Surrey are currently in custody and expected to appear in court later today.
