Severe thunderstorm watch in place for Okanagan

"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms"

The majority of the Okanagan is under a severe thunderstorm watch on Thursday, May 29.

After a day of temperatures in the high 20s, the Okanagan could experience stormy conditions throughout the day on Thursday.

Just before 4:30 a.m. on May 29, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the majority of the Okanagan, ranging from Salmon Arm to Osoyoos, and going as far east as Nakusp. 

"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain," states Environment Canada. 

The government department reminds resident that heavy rain can result in flooding and hail can cause significant damage and injury.

"When thunder roars, go indoors!" added Environment Canada. "Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year."

The weather statement issued doesn't include Princeton and Revelstoke.
