Water service is being restored and should be completed by 4 p.m. to the homes affected by the earlier today in the Clifton Road and Caldow Street area.
High water pressure has been a cause for concern in Kelowna's Clifton neighbourhood on Friday, June 13.
A spike in water pressure at the Broadview Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) station caused a water system disruption in the area of Clifton Road and Caldow Street, affecting around 300 homes. A failure at the station caused a "temporary and substantial spike" in water pressure, high enough to possibly damage in-home plumbing and appliances, according to the City of Kelowna.
Black Press Media became aware of the situation after a reader reached out.
In a press release, the city has confirmed the affected zone has been isolated and water pressure has been reduced. Additionally, there is no active leak but residents in the area currently don't have water service. Crews on scene are assessing the situation and should have the station repaired by the end of the day.
The city encouraged the affected residents to:
- Locate your homeÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s shut-off valve (at the water meter) and keep water shut off until repairs are completed.
- Check and monitor their internal plumbing for signs of damage or leaks. This includes appliances such as hot water tanks.
- Monitor for leaks or flooding, especially in basements, at your hot water tanks, and near your water meter when water service resumes.
- Use caution when turning taps back on once service resumes.
The Kelowna Fire Department has also been notified about the situation and they have identified affected hydrants.
