A second wildfire is burning out of control within 30 kilometres northwest across Upper Arrow Lake from Nakusp, a day after a previous fire was controlled by crews, according to BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

This latest fire reported Wednesday morning, June 11, along Plant Creek near Recreation Sites and Trails BC's Mosquito Lake, is about 10 kilometres west of the blaze  Monday and Tuesday, June 9 and 10.

The Plant Creek wildfire is an estimated 0.6 hectares in size and is suspected to be lightning-caused.

As an out-of-control wildfire, this burn is either spreading or expected to spread "beyond the current perimeter or control line. Suppression actions are being taken to limit the spread of this unwanted wildfire," stated BC Wildfire.

In B.C., about 70 per cent of wildfires are started by lightning, according to provincial data from previous fire seasons.

BCWS's latest update on the fire along Plant Creek came around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.

No area restrictions or evacuations are currently in place.
