$53K in Salmon Arm grant funding going to community groups

Around $53,000 in city grant money going to community groups. 

In a letter received at the March 10 Salmon Arm council meeting, the Shuswap Community Foundation (SCF), which administers the city grants-in-aid program, lists funding recipients from the latest cycle. Grant distribution is decided on by the foundation's Grants-in-Aid Adjudication Committee, of which Salmon Arm Mayor Alan Harrison is a member. 

"With $66,068.72 available, and requests totalling $99,527, the Committee faced difficult decisions," reads the letter from SCF executive director Roger Parenteau. "We are pleased to announce that 20 groups out of 21 applicants were approved and will receive funds in March/April following review by Council." 

In total, $52,950 in grant funding is being disbursed. Recipients are as follows: 

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Columbia Shuswap Selkirks Swim Club Society ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $1,300 for 2025 Askew's Shuswap Splash swim meet; 

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Kamloops Symphony Orchestra ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $1,750 for Salmon Arm Sunday performances; 

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Literacy Alliance of the Shuswap Society ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $4,500 for Unplug and Play;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Salmon Arm Bay Nature Enhancement Society ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $4,000 for nature interpreter (student position); 

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Salmon Arm Sockeyes Swim Club ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $1,500 for replacement of metal adapters for competition timing pads, and replacement of club tents;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ SAS Dry Grad Committee ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $1,100 for dry grad;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ She Shoe Swap ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $1,300 for fundraising event;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Shuswap Association for Community Living  ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $1,500 for automatic doors at community inclusion entrance;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Shuswap Association for Rowing and Paddling ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $1,600 for dragon boat festival;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Shuswap Association of Writers  ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $1,800 for young writers program;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Shuswap Cardiac Society ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $2,900 for cardiac rehab program;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Shuswap Creative Makerspace Society ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $5,900 for memory makers intergenerational projects; 

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Shuswap Minor Lacrosse Association ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $2,600 to help grow sport, keep it affordable;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Shuswap Music Festival ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $2,000 for 2025 festival; 

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Shuswap Pipes 'n Drums ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $2,400 for drums;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Shuswap Theatre Society ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $5,000 for musical youth summer theatre program;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Special Olympics BC Salmon Arm Local 2F ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $2,700 for bowling program;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ The Chop Theatre Society ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $800 for TOTE Festival presentation;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Salmon Arm Agricultural Association ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $5,200 for utilities tax;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Voice of the Shuswap Broadcast Society ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ $3,100 for tower fund.
