The blaze is now considered under control and the fire department is clearing the scene.
Neighbours who witnessed the start of the fire, believe the incident is arson and claim to recognize the individual possibly responsible due to past interactions for which there is a separate RCMP investigation.
Fire crews are responding to a blaze Thursday afternoon (May 22) off Highway 97 in the area of Trout Creek, south of Summerland.
Flames and black smoke were seen at the end of Dunn Street, next to the highway, after 1 p.m.
Five RCMP vehicles and two fire engines are currently at the scene, as of 1:50 p.m.
Police have also taped off a section of the highway, according to Black Press reporter on scene Brennan Phillips.
