Though not yet complete, the Shuswap (Secw茅pemc) Healing Centre has already been renamed. 

At the Nov. 13 meeting, council passed a motion to rename the building as the Sek'emaws (Sicamous) Health Centre as suggested at a council-to-council meeting with Splatsin on  Aug. 12. Coun. Malcolm Makayev, who represents Sicamous in that capacity, explained that Splatsin members suggested the change.

乌鸦传媒淭hey felt that they didn乌鸦传媒檛 want to use the word Shuswap in there at all, or Secw茅pemc, because it has a wrong connotation that it乌鸦传媒檚 part of the Nation and it乌鸦传媒檚 really not," said Makayev. "Their suggestion was to use the Secw茅pemc word for Sicamous, Sek乌鸦传媒檈maws.乌鸦传媒�

He added Splatsin also wanted to drop the word healing from the name as well and suggested calling it the Sek乌鸦传媒檈maws Community Health Centre. In discussion, council supported the proposed name change but want to ensure the english word is also incorporated.

乌鸦传媒淲e need to have something that obviously resonates with our community and then theirs, so I mean we combine both of them and then call it a community health centre.乌鸦传媒�

Coun. Bob Evans, however, preferred to have just Sek乌鸦传媒檈maws used.

乌鸦传媒淚t乌鸦传媒檚 spelled the way it is on our roundabout sign, it乌鸦传媒檚 not hard to say after you practice it a couple times,乌鸦传媒� he said. 乌鸦传媒淚 think it乌鸦传媒檚 the correct way to say Sicamous, so I think that乌鸦传媒檚 what it should be called.乌鸦传媒�

With the majority favouring the dual name, that recommendation was forwarded to council following another meeting with Splatsin where they decided to now drop the word community for the building to now be named the Sek乌鸦传媒檈maws (Sicamous) Health Centre.
