Summerland will host a three-day celebration of sport and fitness during Summerland Action Festival in early June.
The festival runs from June 6 to 8 and includes a slo-pitch tournament, music and entertainment, the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, arm wrestling, the Giantѻýs Head Run, vendors in the park, fireworks and more.
Pat Bell, chair of the Action Festival committee, said much of the festival will be similar to past years, but there will be one noticeable change.
Because of some downtown construction work, Wharton Street will be affected during the weekend.
ѻýWeѻýll be working around holes in the ground potentially,ѻý he said.
The work on the street will affect parking near Memorial Park, but the festival itself will not be affected by the work, Bell said.
One of the highlights of the festival is the slo-pitch tournament, which draws teams from around the province. This year, more than 60 teams are expected to compete at playing fields around the community.
The Giantѻýs Head Run, with a 5.7-kilometre and 10-kilometre option, will be held on Saturday, June 7, starting at 9 a.m. This event has 32 race categories and more than $2,500 in draw prizes. The run typically attracts hundreds of participants.
Music and entertainment this year includes a variety of tribute bands, highlight dancers, a blues band and others.
Bands include Bad Medicine, a Bon Jovi tribute band; Boy Named Sue, a Johnny Cash tribute act; PWR_UP, an AC/DC tribute band and a Shania Twain tribute act. Other bands and entertainers include Moving Lines retro rock hits, Instario classic rock and pop hits, Cat Wells Blues Band, Bay Island All Stars and the Jack and Jill Band performing at the Kinsmen Concert and Dance Party on Saturday evening.
On the evening of June 7, a fireworks display will be held around 10 p.m.
The Summerland Action Festival is a long-running tradition in Summerland, which was established in 1982.
