Summerland Fall Fair to feature home-grown and homemade entries

The Summerland Fall Fair will feature plenty of locally-grown food. The event, on Sept. 13, is a celebration of agriculture in the community.

The Summerland Fall Fair, on Sept. 13, will celebrate SummerlandÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s agricultural heritage.

The fair, a Summerland tradition since 1909, will be held on Wharton Street, at the Ryga Arts and Cultural Centre and in the plaza at the Summerland Museum.

The events include free music, a childrenÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s space, the Great Zucchini Bobsled Races, farm-to-table cooking demonstrations, exhibits of home-grown produced and homemade items, a silent auction and a panel discussion.

The space for children will include goat petting, face painting, the pioneer workshop and potato sack races.

The home-grown and homemade items, entered by people in the community, will include preserves, baked goods, fruits, vegetables, flowers, sewing, crafts and artwork.

There are categories for adults and children.

Entering the exhibition is free. Entry cards are available at the Ryga Arts and Cultural Centre, 9525 Wharton St., beginning Aug. 25. Entries must be dropped of on Friday, Sept. 12, from noon to 6 p.m., with judging happening that evening.

The panel discussion will have the theme "Feeding Ourselves," and will examine food security and agriculture in the Okanagan.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
