The Seaton Sonics' quest to return to the podium at the B.C. High School Girls Rugby 7s championships in Abbotsford is off to a rousing start.

The reigning bronze medalist Sonics finished round-robin play Thursday, May 29, with a record of 2-0-1 to return to the championship bracket.

Seaton defeated the Panorama Ridge Thunder of Surrey 47-12 in their opening game, then downed the Heritage Woods Kodiaks of Port Moody 29-15. 

The Sonics closed the round-robin with a 24-24 draw against the Reynolds Roadrunners of Victoria. Reynolds finished the round-robin with a plus-minus total of plus-55, Seaton ended up at plus-49.

The Salmon Arm Jewels were 2-1 Thursday. The Golds edged the Langley Saints 7-5, and defeated Cranbrook's Mt. Baker Wild 17-7 before falling 33-7 to the Queen Margaret's School Royals of Duncan in a battle of undefeated squads. Salmon Arm was the only team to score a try against Queen Margaret's in the preliminary round.

BC HIGH SCHOOL BOYS RUGBY 7s

Vernon's Fulton Maroons and Kalamalka Lakers of Coldstream ended up in the same preliminary group in Abbotsford.

Fulton will advance out of the group with a 2-1 record, which included a 15-7 win over their North Okanagan rivals Thursday in the preliminary round. The Maroons blanked the Glenlyon Norfolk Gryphons of Victoria 7-0, but fell 19-7 to the West Vancouver Highlanders in a battle of 2-0 teams Thursday afternoon.

Kal went 0-3, dropping a 17-5 decision to West Van, and falling 12-5 to the Gryphons.

BC HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS A SOCCER

Vernon Christian School Royals will face the Nakusp Cougars Friday at 11 a.m. at the provincial finals in Duncan, looking for a win to potentially advance to the championship bracket.

The Royals split their first two games on opening day Thursday, edging the Queen Margaret's School Royals of the host city 2-1, before falling 2-0 to the Credo Christian Kodiaks of Langley.

BC HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS AA SOCCER

Vernon Panthers are playing for pride at the provincials in Burnaby.

The Lady Cats went 0-3 in the round-robin, outscored 15-1 in their three games.

VSS lost 1-0 to the St. Michael's University School Blue Jags of Victoria, 7-1 to St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints of North Vancouver, and finished the round-robin with a 7-0 loss to the Pitt Meadows Marauders.
