PHOTOS: Kids look to hook the big one at Salmon Arm fishing derby

Event started in 1997

Father's Day got off to an early start for kids looking to catch the big one at the annual Salmon Arm Kids' Fishing Derby. 

Kids aged 12 and under, many accompanied by their dads, stood at the end of the Marine Peace Park wharf early Sunday morning, June 15, angling for coarse freshwater fish with an opportunity to win numerous prizes. 

Results were as follows: 

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ First fish: Lathan McLean;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Most fish: 1st) Ophelia Sept; 2nd) Ivan Ivanoff; 3rd) Shailen Tides;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Largest fish: 1st) Euan Boxwell; 2nd) Jack Bellhouse; 3rd) Brooklyn Vollrath. 

The derby was started in 1997 by organizer, and former Observer photographer and columnist, James Murray, in memory of his father.
