With the Salmon Arm Secondary girls' rugby team heading to provincials in Abbotsford May 28-31, a GoFundMe account has been established to help offset costs.

The Salmon Arm Secondary girls' rugby team is going places, but needs a bit of help getting there.

The team scored a berth in the provincials that will be held May 28 to 31 in Abbotsford, but as it comes at a cost, a GoFundMe account has been established to help fund the trip.

Started on May 12, the fund is at $1,345 of its $4,425 goal that will cover team accommodations ($2,200), travel expenses ($400), fruit/water for games ($200), entry fees ($850), and provincial t-shirts ($275). If, per chance, any of the funds aren't used, they will be reinvested into girls' rugby in Salmon Arm.

On the GoFundMe page, organizer Sarah Turgeon-O'Brien, explains that the team consists of 11 girls coached by John Laboyne, who came out of retirement to help them reach this new level of achievement through twice weekly practices and weekly games across the Thompson Okanagan.

"They have worked really hard and greatly improved their game this season. They have achieved top rankings in the Thompson Okanagan region," she said on the page. "Their commitment has paid off in their accomplishments. They are helping to grow the sport of rugby in the Shuswap region."

Anyone wanting to help support the team can do so on the GoFundMe page titled .
