A Sicamous Eagles alum is migrating south of the border with a commitment to play for Roger Williams University (RWU) in Rhode Island next season.
On June 9 the KIJHL announced that Ashton Gallagher, who was a forward with the Eagles for the 2024/25 season, will skate for the RWU Hawks in the National Collegiate Athletic Association this fall.
"I'm really excited to get going in Rhode Island in the fall," Gallagher, who was traded to the Kelowna Chiefs on June 3, said in a media release. "It'll be a great opportunity to continue my education while playing hockey. A new division 3 program is always exciting because you can create a winning culture for years to come."
In 20 regular season games, the Calgary native earned seven goals and six assists, and added two points in three Teck Cup playoff games. In his one season with the KIJHL, Gallagher improved his offensive skills, particularly his finishing ability to become a dominant player, with coaching staff able to rely on him at any point in a game.
"Ashton is dynamic with a great scoring ability and plays a complete 200-foot game," Eagles assistant coach Benjamin Marshall said."And he's a great teammate."
Gallagher, 20, joined the Eagles following a season with the OCN Blizzard in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
"Sicamous helped me earn this opportunity by providing me many chances to become successful on- and off-the-ice," he said. "My coaches game me all the tools I needed in order to succeed and move onto the next level. My teammates were there supporting me which made my season successful and memorable."
