Stampeders carry on with new Vernon member

Longtime Canadian band wows capacity crowd with show in Vernon

You might see drummer Kim Berly out trekking the local trails.

And, according to original guitarist Rich Dodson, you might see new bass player Dave Chabot in the aisles at Superstore.

Two-thirds of the legendary Canadian band The Stampeders have made the North Okanagan their home.

The band's drummer/vocalist Kim Berly, originally from Dawson Creek, now lives in Vernon. New bass player Dave Chabot lives near Vernon. Dodson lives out east.

The Stampeders, winding down their current tour of B.C., stopped at Berly-Chabot's adopted home Sunday, May 11, Mother's Day, playing to a capacity crowd at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre.

It was the band's first appearance in Vernon without founding member Ronnie King, who died in March 2024.

Berly, the group's original drummer, wove stories about King between songs, and the band paid homage to King with a special video tribute while doing one of his songs, Playin' In The Band.

The Stampeders have carried on with Chabot at bass. Chabot is a longtime friend of Berly's.

The group that started in 1966 regaled the enthusiastic crowd with their iconic songs like Ramona, Carry Me, Devil You, and Minstrel Gypsy. They opened up their second set with a cover of the Lovin' Spoonful classic, Summer in the City.

The Stampeders finished the show with their three biggest hits ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ Oh My Lady, Sweet City Woman, Wild Eyes, all Canadian Content fixtures on Canadian radio stations 50-plus years after being released ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ before closing with a two-song encore, Still Standing and Johnny Lightning.

They will conclude their B.C. tour with shows in Kelowna, Abbotsford, and Kamloops.
