One Kelowna business wanted to say thank you in a big way to the firefighters who saved the ownerÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s home and shop.
August Luxury Motorcars revved their engines on Oct. 1 to raise funds for the Okanagan Fire Relief Fund.
Owner Matt August said through the Dream Rally and other events heÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s gotten to know many local firefighters and RCMP officers. Hosting this event was his way to give back.
ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½œMy whole family was evacuated. The store was almost evacuated, the road just behind us was the evacuated area. It kind of hit home for everybody, all of our staff and everybody here volunteering their time were affected or just loves helping support our RCMP and our fire department.ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½
The charity car show featured millions of dollars worth of vehicles, including sports cars, boats, and trucks.
Coldstream Helicopters was in attendance with one of its aircraft. The helicopter company also brought with it a bambi bucket, a key tool in fighting fire by air.
ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½œA lot of people see the helicopters flying with these buckets, they look very small from the ground, and when you see it in real life and you stand beside it, it is absolutely massive.ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½
August said they didnÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™t set a fundraiser goal, but the more money the better. Entry was a minimum donation of $10 per person or $30 for a family of four. The weather was perfect for the show and a few hundred people attended.
ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½œI was born and raised in this city. This city means the world to me, our community means the world to me. For them to put in all that extra time and effort into making sure more people didnÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™t lose their homes and kept everyone safeÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¦ ItÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s amazing what they did.ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½
