A look back at historic Kelowna: 1960 aerial view

This is a historic look back at Kelowna

This historic photo of City Park and Kelowna circa 1960. This was 2 years after the old floating bridge was completed (in use from 1958 to 2008) and the ferry system stopped running. The two-lane, 650-metre floating bridge was built for $7.5 million. From 1958 to 1963, tolls were required to cross the bridge in both directions. They were payable at toll booths located at the west end of the bridge. The basic toll was 50 cents for "automobiles, station wagons, school buses, motor-cycles, with or without a side-car, and trucks licensed under 4,000 lbs." This was a lot of money in 1958 as $.50 back then is worth $5.41 in 2025.
