The local Men's Shed is helping keep score in Salmon Arm.
The Men's Shed is a worldwide movement that creates a welcoming space where men of all ages can connect, support each other, and work on meaningful projects together. The local group's most recent initiative was to build a scoreboard for the local sports community.
With support from Braby Motors, the Men's Shed created the manual scoreboard that will be available for rugby, soccer and football games, "helping players, coaches and spectators enjoy matches even more," member Richard Anderson said.
In between working on that project, the men also helped out elsewhere in the community and recently applied a coat of graffiti-resistant paint to the wall of the Salmar Classic Theatre downtown, and helped clean up the area between the Salmar Theatre and Wing's Kitchen.
"The space had become overgrown and was attracting unwanted activity. After reaching out to the Salmar Theatre board, the MenÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s Shed offered to help," Anderson said. "The board provided funding to purchase the special protective paint, and the MenÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s Shed supplied the manpower and tools to get the job done."
The Salmon Arm Men's Shed started up just last year, and officially incorporated in December. Though still looking for a permanent space, they still regularly meet to work on projects and contribute to the community.
