Monday got off to a brilliant start for Salmon Arm night owls.
Resident Tom Burbee was likely one of many photographers who waited outside late Sunday night, early Monday morning (June 1-2) to capture images of the aurora borealis that lit the sky over Salmon Arm, and much of North America over the weekend.
According to the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the phenomenon was due to a geomagnitic storm caused by a coronal mass ejection, or solar flare, from the sun.
Burbee will be sharing more of his photos on Instagram under tomburbeephotography.
