PHOTOS: Kelowna parades downtown to celebrate Pride month

This is the first year Kelowna has dedicated a whole month to Pride

Sunny conditions shined on hundreds of Kelowna residents for the Kelowna Pride March on Saturday, May 31.

For the first time ever, Kelowna is celebrating Pride for the whole month after it's been just a week-long celebration in the past.

After an opening event, Kelowna's Next Drag Superstar finale took place at Red Bird Brewing on Friday night, the annual march and festival filled Stuart and City Park on Saturday.

Freida Whales & Kayla the Contortionist provided some pre-march entertainment before opening remarks from community leaders and activists took place, including a speech from newly elected Kelowna MP Stephen Fuhr.

Once speeches finished, the annual march started at Stuart Park and went along the waterfront, leading right into the festival at City Park.

At the festival, there was live music, drag performances, food trucks, artisan vendors, and family-friendly activities.

Kelowna Pride Month, as recognized by the City of Kelowna, is May 30-June 30.

Happy Pride Month Kelowna! 🌈💖 it was amazing seeing so many smiling faces at the parade today! Stay tuned for more love-filled events this month! @Advocacy Canada
