Vernon dog park faces month-long closure for upgrades

Vernon's popular BX Ranch Dog Park will be closed for nearly a month starting June 16 for important park upgrades.

A popular spot to walk dogs in Vernon will be closed for a month over summer.

The Regional District of North Okanagan says the BX Ranch Dog Park will be closed for a period of about 30 days starting Monday, June 16.

"Identified as a required park upgrade during public consultation for the 2019 Electoral Area B and C Master Plan, the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) will complete upgrades to the parking lot of BX Ranch Dog Park starting June 16," said the regional district in a release. 

To allow for the upgrades, the park has to close.

The construction project includes:

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Installing a structural sub-base for long-term durability;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Installing catch basins to address pooling water;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢  Paving the parking lot with asphalt;

ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Installation of a new dog water fountain and water bottle filler.

During construction, there will be no vehicle or pedestrian access to the park through the parking lot to ensure public safety and allow the contractor to complete the work as efficiently and quickly as possible.

"We understand the importance of this off-leash area to local dog owners and appreciate the community's patience during this temporary closure," said the RDNO.

Residents are encouraged to utilize any of in the region.
