The Pink Piston Paddlers will be navigating their way to the coast this month to race and take part in a celebration of dragon boating.
Based in Salmon Arm, the Pink Piston Paddlers consists of breast cancer survivors and supporters from communities throughout the Shuswap who enjoy their weekly practices out of the Salmon Arm Wharf.
From June 20-22, the team will be in Vancouver taking part in the Concord Dragon Boat Festival. Billed as the "continentÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s flagship and original dragon boat festival," this year's event marks its 30th anniversary ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ 30 years of the global breast cancer paddling movement.
Since forming in 2006, the Pink Piston team has attended dragon boat festivals world over, including ones in Italy, Austria and New Zealand.
"Next year we have a team heading to France in August to participate in the IBCPC (International Breast Cancer Paddlers Commission) Festival," said the team in a media release. "The team also attends festivals closer to home in Salmon Arm, Vernon, Kamloops and Penticton.
In addition to enjoying time on the water, the Pink Piston Paddlers also endeavour to promote breast cancer awareness, fitness and well-being.
"Social events, friendship and camaraderie can be found within this team and all breast cancer survivors and supporters will be given a warm welcome," said the team.
