Youth tennis continues to grow in Vernon

68 total youth players have been participating this summer in a host of programs

Vernon's youth tennis scene has had a season of growth.

Organized by the Vernon Tennis Association (VTA), numerous youth programs have led to 68 players participating so far in 2025.

The VTA is offering internationally recognized Red-Orange-Green programs, designed to meet the needs of young players, with modified court sizes and balls.

Depending on a playerÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s experience and skill level, players are grouped into three categories: recreational (for those just starting the sport), competitive (those who have developed their strokes) and tournaments (for those wanting competition).

In all groups, players progress from one level to another:

- Recreational ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ for those players who are just starting

- Competitive ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ for those players who have the basic skills and wish to advance further

- Tournament ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½“ for those players who wish to enter tournaments.

"The VTA hosts Tennis BC sanctioned tournaments to provide the opportunity for our local players to develop," said VTA's Graham Cooper.

Sanctioned tournaments have already taken place in the summer, on July 13 and 20,  with two more scheduled on Aug. 10 and Aug 20. The events bring out players from other parts of the Okanagan, Alberta and the Yukon.

Summer programs are now open for registration, with sessions running daily.
