The Giants Head Grind/Push for Your Tush Race Event, a fundraiser for Colorectal Cancer Canada, will take place in Summerland.

Summerland council has approved a permit for road closures for a fundraising run to be held in the lakeshore area.

The Push for Your Tush event will involve a five-kilometre and 10-kilometre walk or run route between Peach Orchard Beach Park and Landry Crescent.

The Giants Head Grind/Push for Your Tush Race Event, a fundraiser for Colorectal Cancer Canada, is new to the community, although the Giants Head Grind, a race from the lakeshore to the top of GiantÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s Head Mountain, had been an annual event in Summerland.

The new event has a proposed date of Saturday, May 17, although construction work could result in a change of date until September.

To accommodate the event, temporary road closures are required along sections of Landry Crescent, Lakeshore Drive South and various multi-use pathways.

A report to council from Joe Mitchell, director of works and infrastructure for Summerland, said the event does not require full road closures and the roads will remain open to the public.
