Three Vernon-based organizations will come into sustainability funding, courtesy of the City of Vernon.
The city received nine applications for its 2025 spring intake Sustainability Grant program, which provides up to $2,000 for Vernon residents and organizations to develop climate action and environmental sustainability community initiatives.
Set to receive funds, as recommended by staff and to be discuss and approved by council at its regular meeting Monday, Aug. 11, are:
ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Canadian Mental Health Association, $2,000, to create indoor tower gardens with youth to improve mental health and food security;
ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Okanagan Village Housing Society, $2,000, to provide waste management education and materials for affordable housing residents;
ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½¢ Caetani Cultural Centre, $2,000, for installation of rainwater catchment barrels to conserve water for landscaping.
"The 2025 program budget is $12,000 and there are two application periods (spring and fall intakes), with half of the annual budget ($6,000) allocated for each application period," said city staff in a report to council
