Artist Jessie Sohpaul has created a Diwali-themed logo for a special Vancouver Canucks jersey and game on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
during a battle with former captain Bo Horvat and his current team, New York Islanders.
The Canucksѻý latest Diwali logo was revealed Thursday (Nov. 2) on twitter.com and other social media channels, where Sohpaul described his colourful art.
ѻýDiwali is not just for South Asians,ѻý the artist says. ѻýIts message is universal. Because of this, I wanted the design to be more modern and not lean exclusively into typical Diwali themes.ѻý
On the colours: ѻýDiwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness. The colour palette reflects this with a dark base and warm tones overtop.ѻý
On the fusion of birds: ѻýThe peacock is native to South Asia, and the phoenix represents renewal, a theme of Diwali.ѻý
On the paisley: ѻýA flame within each paisley represents the lighting of diyas,ѻý or oil lamps.
On the autumn sky: ѻýThe background highlights starts in the night sky before the lighting of fireworks.ѻý
