PHOTOS: Massive scooter competition takes over Penticton park

From Michigan to B.C., scooter riders show off their best tricks at Penticton Youth Park

A group of about 40 avid scooter riders, mostly from Vancouver, took over a Penticton skate park on Saturday (Aug. 16) for an annual competition.

For the second year in a row, Kaden Larocque travelled from the Lower Mainland with his friends to host the event at Penticton Youth Park (135 Riverside Dr.).

Okanagan-based riders ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½” in the beginner, intermediate, and professional categories ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½” were joined by competitors from Vancouver, Calgary, California, and Michigan, according to Larocque, who served as one of the event's judges.

The skate park welcomed spectators starting at 11 a.m.

Each rider was given one minute to show off their best tricks in front of the judges and audience.

Penticton Youth Park ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½” considered one of the largest skate facilities in B.C. ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½” opened in the mid-2000s and features a 30,000-square-foot site with a variety of obstacles, terrain, and spectator seating.

The facility was powered up with newly-installed stadium lights for the first time after regularly hosting skateboarders, scooter, and BMX riders for close to 20 years.
