Vernon Golf Club to host women's zone tourneys

Top-two finishers in the women's and senior women's divisions advance to the provincial championships

The Vernon Golf and Country Club is in great shape as it prepares to host the Zone 2 Thompson-Okanagan Women's and Senior Women's championships May 25-26.

Spots at provincial championships will be on the line as the Vernon Golf and Country Club hosts the Zone 2 (Thompson-Okanagan) Women's Championships Sunday, May 25, and Monday, May 26.

A field of 77 from 15 different clubs, including many locals, will compete for spots at the 120th B.C. Women's Amateur Championship June 23-26 at the Victoria Golf Club, as well as the B.C. Senior Women's Championship, slated for June 9-12 at the Whistler Golf Club.

"Vernon is honoured and excited to host these exceptional lady golfers," said Vernon Golf Club ladies captain Tina Gabriele. "The course is in amazing shape, and it should provide a competitive challenge to all."

The returning Amateur champion is Tierra Elcuk who is a junior from the Okanagan Club in Kelowna. Earlier this year, Elcuk was the Interior Region recipient of the 2024 PremierÎÚÑ»´«Ã½™s Award for Indigenous Youth Excellence in Sport.

Returning Senior Champion is Donna LaLonde from Penticton.

Two junior girls have entered.

The champion and runner-up of the Amateur and Senior events will represent Zone 2 at the provincials.
